Childcare Provider-On Call

Department: Unassigned Department
Location: San Francisco, CA

Over the course of 126 years, MNC has provided services essential to the improvement of the lives of San Francisco’s communities. We believe that supporting individual members of a family throughout each life phase brings success and upward mobility for the entire family unit. Today, we have 14 campuses that are enhancing the lives of low-income seniors, youth, and families.

We are looking for a Childcare Provider (On-Call) will be primarily responsible for supervision, health, safety, and program administration. They will ensure parents sign their children in and out of the facility and communicate with parents at pickup. He/she will take the lead in designing engaging, fun, and age-appropriate activities for the children. He/she will also share resources and information with families and provide referrals to MNC’s Family Resource Centers for individuals in need of more intensive case management and resources.

Interacting with Children

  • Provide attentive supervision and ensure the safety of children.
  • Organize quiet/active activities appropriate for various age groups.
  • Interact with children and carries out small group activities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages learning, creativity, and positive interactions among children.
  • Respond to children's needs, including assisting with bathroom breaks, comforting them when upset, and resolving conflicts when they arise.
  • Supervises children; monitors conversation, manners, behaviors, cleanup activities, etc.
  • Assists children with hand washing and toileting.
  • Assists children to nap if needed.
  • Use positive discipline techniques in guiding children's behavior.
  • Monitor children during meals to ensure their safety and address any choking hazards or allergies promptly.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.

Management

  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Maintains records of care provided, tracks data.
  • Monitors the maintenance of wait room equipment and materials for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, and/or ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Maintains equipment, materials, and emergency supplies, and reorders supplies when needed.

Parent Engagement

  • Maintain list and display of informational and various resource items of interest for parents.

Customer Service

  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Always represent the Agency in a professional manner.

Safety

  • Maintain personal safety, use personal protection equipment (PPE) and follow Agency policies.
  • Report all and any safety issues, accidents, or injuries to your manager as a matter of priority.

Effective Team Member

  • Ability to interact positively with team members.
  • Ability to facilitate positive change.
  • Partner with supervisor when necessary to address department issues or concerns.

Qualifications

Education: AS/AA Degree, and/or Bachelor‘s degree in Education, Public Health Administration or in related field preferred.

Pay Rate: $25.00 Hourly

Experience:

  • Experience in childcare or babysitting, preferably in a group setting.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate activities, mealtime routines, and child development principles.
  • Ability to create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for children.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when interacting with children and their parents.
  • Basic understanding of child safety and first aid procedures.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility in working hours, evening working hours are required, and occasional weekend shifts may be added.

Requirements:

  • Current Physical Health Screening (every 2 years thereafter)
  • Fingerprinting Clearance (DOJ)
  • Current Immunizations (TB (every 2 years thereafter) , Influenza (yearly), MMR, Pertussis)
  • Clearance Child Abuse Index
  • Current CPR & First Aid Certificate (every 2 years thereafter)

Language(s): Fluent in English; Any other language (is a plus)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of food safety guidelines, including storage, handling, and serving of meals or snacks, with awareness of allergens and dietary restrictions.
  • Familiarity with meal planning and preparation techniques, including knowledge of portion sizes, balanced diets, and healthy eating habits.
  • Demonstrated skill in engaging children during mealtime through age-appropriate conversation, games, or activities to encourage positive interactions and pleasant dining experiences.
  • Patience and adaptability in dealing with diverse food preferences, challenging behaviors, and specific dietary needs while maintaining a positive mealtime atmosphere.
  • Effective communication with parents and program staff regarding mealtime coordination, preferences, and special requirements.
  • Experience in providing childcare in group settings, prioritizing safety, engagement, and positive interactions.
  • Knowledge of child development principles and ability to implement age-appropriate activities.
  • Ability to create a nurturing and inclusive environment for children.
  • Safe driving skills with responsible behavior on the road, preferably with experience in passenger transportation or diverse urban environments.
  • Cultural sensitivity in interacting with participants from diverse backgrounds, including those facing language or cultural barriers.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for clear instructions and active listening.
  • Proficiency in navigating urban areas, including familiarity with routes, landmarks, and public transportation options, along with GPS navigation systems.
  • Reliability and punctuality in meeting scheduled pick-up and drop-off times, ensuring access to necessary services and appointments.
  • Adaptability to changing schedules and unforeseen circumstances, with flexibility in working hours, including availability for evening shifts.
  • Basic understanding of first aid procedures and ability to respond appropriately in emergencies or medical situations.

Software: Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer.

Decision Making: Set priorities and standards of performance; Develop plans by which work can be accomplished.

Tools and Equipment: General office equipment, fax, copier, printer, phone, and computer.

Confidential and Sensitive Information: Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with client information.
